What is Sandtray?
"Sandtray therapy is. . . . a variety of effective ways of using sand, figures and a container . . . . and emphasizes the spontaneous and dynamic qualities of the creative experience itself. The essence of sandplay is non-verbal and symbolic. In what Dora Kalff called the 'free and protected space' provided by the tray and the relationship with the therapist, children and adults play with sand, water and miniatures over a period of time, constructing concrete manifestation of their inner world." -Lauren Cunningham
Sandtray is an optional, yet very powerful tool for both children and adults to help gain access to our inherent creativity and problem-solving resources. Sandtray utilizes a box of sand of specific dimensions with a variey of miniatures, and the environment established by the therapist of a "free and protected space."
"We can say that there is in every organism, at whatever level, an underlying flow of movement toward constructive fulfillment of its inherent possibilities." - Carl Rogers. What a powerful statement this is!
